Installation of further packages

RSIbreak

KDE has a wonderful program to prevent staying to long in front of the monitor. We do not want to go to an eye doctor right after this installation session, so we install the package “rsibreak” right now with smart. After installation it needs to be started and configured in such a way that it gets started every time.

LaTeX

TeX was installed with the TexLive 2007 DVD which came with the Dante quarterly magazine. The only necessary manual step was to add a file /etc/profile.local with the following content
export PATH=/usr/local/texlive/2007/bin/i386-linux:$PATH
export MANPATH=/usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf/doc/man:$MANPATH
export INFOPATH=/usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf/doc/info:$INFONPATH

unset TEXMFCNF
unset TEXINPUTS
The local texmf directory of TexLive is the folder “/usr/local/texlive/texmf-local”

Fonts

The MS Fonts can be installed with the rpm mentioned in Optimal Use of MS TrueType Core Fonts for a KDE Desktop on SuSE. On my system however there is a conflict with an existing font from the agfa font package, so that I tried the script “fetchmsttfonts.sh” I had once found – which did not work either. So I uninstalled the agfa fonts and installed the package which did not work before. To overcome such problems in the future I made a backup of the MS fonts of the Windows Installation and added the font folder as described in Zusätzliche Schriften in Suse hinzufügen
